Summer Learning Program

Young Warriors Summer Learning Program

The Young Warriors Summer Learning Program is an eight week academic enrichment program offered to students living in and around under-served communities in Dallas. Over the summer enrolled children are instructed in Math, Science, Nutrition and fundamentals of Spanish. In addition, life skills are included in the curriculum; they’re schooled in the value of service through volunteerism and leadership.  Getting the parents involved has improved the success rate of this program; both students and parents sign contracts making them accountable for attendance and behavior.

The Program operates Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 11:30 am in a classroom environment and is led by qualified instructors from Group Excellence.

Inspirational Field Trips:
From exploring a major high-rise construction site to touring an aerospace plant, we demonstrate how academic studies link to the prospects of a better career and their impact on society.

Our Program Locations:
We’ve expanded our 2010 program with 2 new locations!  Each of our three locations will serve up to 80 children, ages 5 – 16.  This expansion broadens our outreach further supporting the Foundation’s mission of providing total enrichment opportunities to youth in under-served communities.

  • Willie B Johnson Recreation Center: Serving youth in the Hamilton Park community of North Dallas
  • Juanita J. Craft Recreation Center: Operating inside the Baylor Diabetes Health and Wellness Institute – serving youth in the Frazier Courts community of East Dallas.
  • St. Philips School and Community Center:  Serving youth in South Dallas communities.
